Dr Jason Horan

Dr Horan works full-time as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.  He graduated fro UCD in 2002 and completed his specialist training in Ireland.  After working as a Consultant in Tallaght and Sligo, he moved to Mayo in 2014.  Originally from Clare, he lives in Westport.

He has a strong background in pre-hospital care.  For many years he has worked with the UCD Centre for Emergency Medicine Science in training Advanced Paramedics for the National Ambulance Service and Dublin Fire Brigade.

He is the medical advisor for Mountain Rescue Ireland and a some-time volunteer with the Mayo Mountain Rescue Team.  He is also on the faculty of the Wilderness EMS Institute (WEMSI-International) and has taught on their Wilderness EMT and Wilderness Physician courses for many years.  He is now medical director for the courses run in Ireland.

Outside of medicine, his interests lie in outdoor activities, ICT and encryption.  He is married to a paramedic (Mary), who though not a Covey, has lived in Westport for years and would be familiar to many locals.  They have 2 children, Molly and Jonah, who was a new addition in December 2015.

Dr Horan began responding for Mayo ICRR in September 2015.
